# Brandon Hulcoop, 23, wins Pride of Britain Young Achiever

Brandon Hulcoop, 23, from Plymouth, won the King's Trust Young Achiever award at the 2026 Pride of Britain Awards. Blind since birth, he applied for more than 1,000 jobs without success. He then started All Things Dotty, which makes braille menus, cards and games, and he offers free braille lessons to people on low incomes.

## What happened?

Brandon Hulcoop, 23, from Plymouth, won the King's Trust Young Achiever award at the 2026 Pride of Britain Awards.

Hulcoop has been blind since birth. He spent 16 months unemployed and applied for more than 1,000 jobs. He often could not get past the interview stage. He believed this was because of his lack of experience or his disability.

"I was feeling hopeless for a really long time, constantly looking for jobs," he said.

## How did he turn it around?

His work coach referred him to The King's Trust Enterprise programme. The programme gives young people mentoring and funding to start a business.

Hulcoop had an idea from daily life. He was frustrated that he could not read his own birthday cards or restaurant menus. So he started All Things Dotty. The business makes accessible products for blind and partially sighted people, their families and businesses.

Its products include:

- braille menus for restaurants
- greetings cards
- board games and card games
- colouring books and artwork

## How else does he help?

Hulcoop also set up the UK Sight Loss Collective. It works with government and public bodies on sight loss. It also:

- teaches braille free of charge to people on low incomes
- mentors young people into work
- gives talks in schools

He is an ambassador for Devon in Sight, a sight loss charity.

## Why does it matter?

Hulcoop wants All Things Dotty to become the UK's leading disability service and then to grow abroad. "I am proud because people come and say thank you for turning their lives around," he said.
